Ross-on-Wye RFC 2nds carried on their winning ways with a comprehensive 30-0 victory over Berry Hill 3rds. Ross has previously been on the end of a thumping to Berry Hill in a friendly earlier in the season, so it was sweet revenge and proved how far Ross 2nds have come in a small space of time. Ross were dominant in the first half, almost entirely camped in the Berry Hill half.
Scrum half Craig Powell got the first score for Ross with a quickly taken penalty and dive over the line. He narrowly missed the conversion. Five minutes later however, he scored a penalty from under the sticks.
Berry Hill rarely troubled Ross and the second half was very much as the first. Flanker Ian Davies was on hand to dive on a loose ball in the try area putting Ross further ahead, which Powell converted. Davies’ open side partner, newcomer and New Zealander Campbell Sommerville scored next for Ross, with a strong run and breaking tackles to score.
Powell converted. Hooker Chris Price got Ross’ last try after latching onto a wide pass to score in the corner. It was a superb all round professional performance for Ross, with the whole team playing its part. Wes Downing at full-back had a particularly good game, as did Campbell Sommerville who looks a great prospect for the future, but the Drop Inn man of the match went to Ian Davies.
