Meanwhile, Newent RFC have had their unbeaten title-winning season officially capped with promotion to Regional 1 Midlands, after South West Rugby confirmed their elevation.

The announcement seals a triumphant year for the Green Army, who stormed to the Regional 2 West Midlands title with a commanding 103 points, finishing a remarkable 20 points clear of second-placed Moseley Oak.

Their campaign was nothing short of dominant. Across 22 matches, Newent won 21, drew just once, and went the entire season unbeaten.

They notched up 811 points, the highest in the league by a distance and conceded just 287, giving them a staggering points difference of +524.

Their consistency was backed by ruthless attacking form and solid defence, reflected in a league-best 16 try bonus points and not a single defeat at home or away.

The title was effectively wrapped up weeks before the final round, but the official confirmation of promotion marks a proud milestone for the club and its supporters, which will see the team rise to Regional 1 Midlands, the fifth tier of English rugby and one of six semi-professional leagues at that level.

Known until 2021–22 as the Midlands Premier, the division features top sides from across the Midlands and offers a higher standard of competition, including several former National League outfits and ambitious, well-resourced clubs.

It’s a huge step for the Forest-based club, who will now be rubbing shoulders with some of the region’s biggest names in the sport.

Club officials welcomed the announcement, which comes ahead of the release of next season’s fixtures, expected soon.

Preparations are already underway to ensure the squad is ready for the challenges ahead, with coaching staff and players alike determined to prove that Newent belongs at the higher level.
