After a long Christmas and New Year break, Ross 1sts were back in league action looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season at local rivals Bream.

This was a game of two halves but the strong Ross side finished on top, winning 51 to 12.

The first half was highly competitive but after the break Ross pulled away to a convincing bonus point win, cementing their position at the top of the table.

Ross were the first get onto the scoreboard, an early Craig Smith try giving them a 5-0 lead. Within a few minutes Josh Element added another from a driving lineout and Ross went 12-0 ahead, but a bit of indiscipline and some sloppy errors gave Bream some possession and territory and they camped themselves in the Ross twenty two for most of the second quarter. Initially the Ross defence held firm but a yellow card for Gavin Oates saw Ross down to 14 men, and Bream eventually got over the whitewash to bring them back to 12-5. That score looked as if it would last until the break but Ross forced a penalty on the last play of the half. They turned down the chance to kick the penalty and went for the lineout, and after over ten phases of play Ben Element crashed over to score, putting Ross 17-5 ahead at the break.

That last score seemed to hit the hosts hard as the second half was one way traffic. Early tries from AJ and a second for Craig Smith saw them quickly move 31-5 clear. As the game entered the last quarter, and Bream tired, Ross ran in further scores from Jonnie Baynham, Thai Hayward and Dan Field. Ross pulled away to a 51-5 lead, Bream added a late try to bring the final score to Bream 12, Ross 51. On Saturday Ross are at home against Bristol Aero, a 2.30pm kick off.
