ROSS RFC U15s were pleased to host Dursley on a fine day a week last Sunday, and started strongly, playing confident running rugby with good attacking organisation.
Their early pressure paid off with two quick tries before Dursley responded, using their backs to go wide and score a well-deserved try.
But despite the visitors’ efforts, Ross went into half-time leading 31-12.
Dursley struck again early in the second half though, reminding Ross the game was far from over.
But the hosts hit back, reorganising and returning to the attack to score two further tries and secure a 45-17 win, with the strong performance showing that their hard work in training is paying off.
Euan Winstanley scored two tries and five conversions, while Tyron Parker, Seb Whiles, Rhys Gaw, Archie Evans and Leo Dumont all scored one apiece.
Man of the match was Leo, who provided tireless work and lots of line-breaking runs.
And a special mention for Archie, who scored his first try for Ross RFC, while full-back Sam Gilbert was recognised by the opposition for his work in attack and defence.
Last Sunday proved more challenging, with injuries and absentees against visitors Old Cryptians leading to a 12-a-side.
Ross used the opportunity to try players in new positions, which led to an open, high-scoring game.
With 10 minutes to go, they really stepped up, moving the ball quickly out wide and scoring three superb tries to secure a 52-45 comeback win.
Euan Winstanley scored four tries and six conversions and there were solo tries for Tyron Parker, man-of-the-match Lukas Vegele, last-minute stand in Corey Barlow and Leo Dumont.
Not to be outdone, the U16s were also in 11th heaven, scoring 11 tries in a 77-5 home win over Old Cryptians, Euan scoring a try and converting all 11 and Exley Berry crossing for five tries and Ty Parker for three.
