For the second running on the popular Walford Ten course this season, Paul Fallon once again came out on top in a time of 24:39.

Weather conditions were cold and damp on the road. With current Ross man to beat Will Bevan riding elsewhere, and winning another club's ten mile race in an awesome time of 20:41 on what can only be described as a hard night, it left the door open for the Ross battles.

Paul's advantage is being whittled down by the chasing pack with the usual battle between Graham Carter and Paul Stephens resuming from last season with times of 25:32 & 25:37. Max Suff was next home, but his lighter body mass was not as perfect for the flatter courses as a hilly one. Young Matt Fallon had the best improvement on the night 27:19 with his new bike taking 1 minute 30 off his previous best time. In the ladies section Justine Lee on her first attempt at a time trial had the better of Mary Middleton with times of 34:24 & 36:57.

On Sunday, May 6th, Ross & District Cycling Club held its annual running of the Cross Ash Hilly 25. This can only be described as one of the toughest races in the country, which means the time chasers would never ride it, instead it draws the hill climbing specialist. As a result only six riders turned up, with the biggest headache being what type of bike to ride? Road bike (conventional) or a specialist time trial machine.

As it was, there was a 50/50 split. Last year Will Bevan had the race in the bag till he punctured. Keen not to do the same again this year Will put in a performance that smashed the Ross record, taking four minutes off it, in a time of 1:05:53. Will was very pleased to have his first record in the books.

First of the road bikes home was Paul Fallon in 1:14:14, which was a personal best for him. Max Suff in his first go at the course took the bronze spot 1:17:33, seven stone wet took advantage over the heavier riders.

Paul Stephens and Graham Carter once again locked horns. Paul on a road bike and Graham on a TT bike were side by side at half distance, where the road machine showed its advantages on the hills before being left by Graham on the flatter sections.

By the end the hills had done their thing (with a little help from poor maintenance thrown in) and Graham broke. Paul crossed the line in 1:20:44 and Graham in 1:26:39.

In his first outing of the season Bob Hill brought up the rear in a time of 1:28:33, which was respectable considering how little he's been out this year.
