On the evening of Tuesday, May 22nd, Goodrich ’B’ashers travelled to Woolhope to take on their ’C’ team in the H&W Division 6 Summer League.
First pair, Kirsten Mathews and Wendy Jenkins, got off to a flying start in their first rubber, going 3-0 up, but then allowed the Woolhope first pair to draw level. However that was the only games they won, with Kirsten and Wendy going on to win 6-3/6-0. Their second rubber followed a similar pattern, and with it being a perfectly still evening there was plenty of opportunities to do some successful lobbing, and a resulting score-line of 6-3/6-1.
’B’ashers second pair, Carolyn Riddell and Sue Harley, also recorded a good win against their Woolhope counterparts of 6-2/6-2. However their second rubber was to prove a lot more challenging, with the Goodrich pair dropping the first set 3-6 and the second set heading in the same direction.
However Carolyn and Sue, not known for going down without a fight, managed to draw level at 6-6 and win the tie-break comfortably. With Kirsten and Wendy giving encouragement from the side-line, Carolyn and Sue were able to win the third set and claim all five points to put the ’B’ashers back in top spot in Division 6.
’B’ashers next match is on Sunday, June 3rd at Goodrich against Boughton Park at 11.30am.
