IN their last local warm-up event before the start of the main rowing season, the junior scullers at Ross Rowing Club took a good number of crews to Avon County Spring Head and came away with six wins and 10 second placed crews. This is a major confidence booster as the crews get ready for the West Midlands Championships in two weeks.
All of the wins came in small boats, four of which were single sculls: WJ13 (Emily Hermon), WJ14 (Katie Smith), J14 (Cameron Roberts), WJ15 (Imogen Ryan). The WJ13 doubles of Imogen Seal/Niamh Hickey, and WJ15 double scull of Daisy Phillips/Lara Banks-Martin also picked up wins.
These results reflect the increased emphasis on single sculling during the winter period, and the high performance levels will translate into greater boat speed when these athletes move into bigger crew boats through the regatta season.
The next opportunity to try out junior rowing at Ross is at the Junior Easter Camp which takes place over five days in the first week of the Easter Holidays (April 10th -14th).
