The Ross and District Motor Sports Club held its second auto test of the year in inclement weather at the livestock market last Saturday, January 20th, 2018.

The weather was extremely cold and wet which proved to be a challenge for the participants.

The surfaces were very slippery but made for some spectacular drifting around the cones.

There were 23 entrants in 18 cars, spread over two disciplines. The winners of the auto test discipline were Dean Coleman in his MINI, followed by Will Thompson in his Peugeot 106. Both cars are front wheel drive.

Sam Charles was third in his MX-5 and first in the rear wheel drive entry. Unfortunately, Will Rogers and Alan Morgan had to retire due to a broken gear box.

The second discipline was the Production Car Auto test. This was won by Rich Jones and Hayden Tindall in an MX-5, followed by Martin Taylor and Oliver Mercer in a Colt.

Steve Hoskins had a problem with his tyres, as he was using road rally tyres which appeared to have too much grip for the conditions.

However, the driving was spectacular and very entertaining to see. The club wanted to say well done to Ollie Jenkins for putting on some very flamboyant tests on his first time as a clerk of the course. Everybody appeared to enjoy the show.

The club also want to thank the organisers and marshals for making such an effort on a wet, chilly day. Also, thanks to the owners of the livestock market for the continued provision of a superb venue. The next event will be on Saturday, February 3rd at 12pm.

The club is also open to all newcomers every Thursday from 8pm at the club house on Kyrle Street.
