Ross swimming club competed in the first round of the PGL galas on Saturday at Droitwich and came away with a superb result overall in being placed second just losing out to eventual winners Evesham but beating Bromsgrove and Haden Hill by a large margin.
Ross started very brightly with Alex May, Danny Gabb, Lauren Davies, Olivia Mace and Trinity Coles all winning their races.
The U10 girls and boys medley team continued the good start both having convincing victories. The U10 boys relay team of Tom Wilson, Ben Kershaw, Alex Blake and Jayesh Punn were forced to swim in the U11 and some of the U12s due to unforeseen withdrawals the morning of the gala. They competed admirably throughout swimming numerous events.
Ross maintained their lead throughout the mid point with wins for Joe Hollis, Harley Kernot, Maisie Tucker, Jennifer Blake, Evelyn Barker and the first of three individual wins for Ben Kershaw.
It was only right at the end that Evesham finally overhauled the Ross total although Emily Morris, Rosie Boiling and Eve Rawlings also had convincing firsts.
In the U9s, competing in her debut gala, Lucy Powell put in a great swim to come second in her front crawl race which was matched by Millie Salter in the back stroke.
The final results were Evesham 183 Ross 180 Bromsgrove 104 Haden Hill 100 which will set Ross up nicely to make the finals later on in the year.
The coaches' swimmer of the gala was Ben Kershaw who competed in ten races over three different age groups.
