AN intrepid team of eight head to Scotland next month to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of Ross Tennis Centre’s ‘Raise the Roof’ fund.
The group met for their final team briefing last week ahead of travelling to Fort William on July 8, where they will spend the night before ascending Ben Nevis next morning.
They will then move to Scafell Pike in the Lake District and finish on Snowdon in Wales – aiming to complete all three within 24 hours.
Chloe Wiggill, Charlie Bowden, Becca Dazeley, Tony Bowden, Kelly James and Andy Churchill will be supported by drivers Ken Hartley and Dave Lewis, who will share the demanding overnight driving between the mountains.
Eighteen‑year‑old Charlie is well known locally for his commitment to sport and also for his charity work, having raised significant funds for causes close to the community, including an impressive £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves over 23 miles of hiking, more than 3,000m of ascent, and around 450 miles of driving, and is regarded as one of the UK’s toughest endurance events, demanding teamwork, resilience, and careful planning.
This year’s effort is raising money for Ross Tennis Centre, a not‑for‑profit, volunteer‑run community club that provides affordable tennis and coaching.
The club was forced to use emergency funds to replace its ageing roof over the winter, and the team hopes the challenge will help replenish those reserves and support the continued development of the facility.
Tony Bowden said: “We’re doing this for the club, for the tennis community, and because we want to give something back. Everyone has trained hard, and we’re ready to take it on.”
