Goodrich Cricket Club entertained Glangrwyney in the sunny microclimate that is Hilltop Paradise. The views over the Marches were awe inspiring which is more than can be said for the Glangrwyney batting performance, perhaps best described as a dark cloud in a scorebook.
The Goodrich opening bowlers, Bradford and O'Brien who, on a damp wicket were simply too canny, too fast and just too good for their opposing foe, who despite the odd boundary, never looked like occupying their creases for any period of time as proved to be the case. Most batsmen bowled off the jagging seam with the exception of a fine stumping by Eddie Pyatt from the bowling of Mark Bradford.
Bradford returned figures of 12 overs 1 maiden 33 runs for 3 wickets. O' Brien 12 overs 5 maidens 17 runs for 3 wickets. With the score on 50 for 6 with the opening blitzkrieg having laid waste to the Welshmen, Chris Tookey and Rufus Davies were charged with the mopping up operations.
Tookey dispatched the seventh batsmen thanks to a fabulous diving catch courtesy of Samuel Griffiths. The last three stragglers were picked off by Davies leaving Glangrwyney with a paltry score of 69.
Tea was a triumph of fresh cream and jam melting from the home-made sponges.
The pitch was still damp when the Goodrich batsmen took their turn in the middle. Rutsch fell early facing short sharp bowling caught at slip, then Griffiths, who looking comfortable with attack was adjudged LBW for 9. Andrew Brown scored freely before he was bowled for 16 leaving Goodrich three wickets down with the score on 31.
Over the years Goodrich have produced quality home-grown cricketers and so it came to pass that Golden Boys James O' Brien and Craig Emsley found themselves together at the crease to knock off the next forty runs with effortless stroke play and reach their target and gather 18 points.
A comfortable victory for the village, keeping Goodrich hard on the heels of leaders Garnons in Marches League Division 1. The Man of the Match was James O'Brien.
