Nigel Mummery from Hope Mansell, recently entered the Time Attack competition round held at the Snetterton race circuit in his highly modified Escort Cosworth.

Nigel is normally found competing on tarmac rallies in his Focus WRC, but he decided to run the Cosworth in a Time Attack round in order to see how the car performed compared to the extensively modified Mitsubishi EVO’s, Subarus, Lotus and Noble sports cars used in the top classes.

Nigel’s car is a converted rally car with a highly modified Cosworth engine producing around 800hp. The main engine components are designed and manufactured by Smith and Jones Engineering who build competition race and rally engines. Nigel is a co-owner of the company and brought the car to show the potential of the company’s products.

Nigel was very pleased to be putting in very competitive times during the first session and found that he was leading the lap times after the second session where he set a new class lap record around the Snetterton 200 circuit. Nigel has not entered the Time Attack championship and hence, as a single round entrant, he was not elegible for a podium position. But he ended the day very pleased with the performance achieved at this one off entry.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
