A new chassis for Toby Davis, after his old one was written off at Silverstone, turned out to be a blessing, as he went on to take two wins from three races at the prestigious Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk.

All three members of the Davis Racing team, father Richard, Toby and Ben, spent a significant amount of time in the lead-up to the Snetterton weekend preparing Toby's new kart, and it paid dividends. By the time Race 1 came around the kart was in the sweet spot and Toby patiently picked off karts to win his first race of the season, and his second ever, by several seconds. He also took the overall fastest lap, which meant he would start Race 2 from pole.

Ben, meanwhile, was trying a variety of major setup changes to try and rid himself of the understeer problems that have plagued him since midway through 2012. He ended up finishing 4th.

Race 2 began with Toby taking the lead into Turn 1, a lead he held for 3 laps, but ended up relinquishing the lead to James O'Reilly into the final corner. Toby repassed James at T1, staying flat through the corner and passing him on the outside, but the kart bogged down later in the lap and James got back through at the Bomb Hole, forcing Davis wide and allowing Dan Clark, Sam Moss and Ross Allen to also get by. Toby would overtake Moss in a slipstreaming manouver to get back to 4th place, before Clark and Allen would get together at Brundle, allowing Toby to move back into 2nd place, a position he held until the end.

Brother Ben was still suffering handling issues and would finish the race in 7th place after a relatively lonely race.

The GP final was a tense affair. A one-off race held every year to determine a one-off champion, the prestigious race is one everybody wants to win. The majority of the grid went out on brand new slicks, whilst Toby had chosen to scrub his in during the morning session to give him a slight advantage on the opening lap.

Toby, starting 4th, would be 2nd by turn 2 after going flat-out around the outside of polesitter Paul Platt at turn 1 and beating O'Reilly off the line with a better reaction at the start. Allen had begun the race with a 10 kart-length advantage, but Toby reeled him in and sent his kart down the inside into T4, ending lap 1 over a second in the lead. Ross Allen overtook Davis in a slipstreaming manouver at the beginning of lap 4 and held on, despite Toby setting his fastest lap on the final lap and drawing the gap down to 0.4 seconds at the line.

Toby congratulated Ross on the cool-down lap however, an enquiry had been opened and it transpired that the officials were investigating Ross for his alleged jump-start. The transponder readings showed that Allen crossed the transponder line 0.6 seconds ahead of polesitter Platt at the start. As a result, Allen was demoted five places for jumping the start, which promoted Toby to the race win, and by extension, the 2013 GP winner.

Toby said: "Ross made the mistake of jumping the start, and I felt that although he drove a better race and that if the results had stood, he would have been a worthy champion, the rules are the rules and he broke them and gained an advantage."

Ben had another lonely race and felt a little despondent post-meeting, finishing the GP 8th and 16 seconds behind brother Toby. Needless to say, significant work will be done behind the scenes prior to Thruxton in order to figure out why he had handling issues and what can be done to resolve them in order to make the younger Davis competitive once again.
