Ross Touch entered the final 2022 Midlands Touch League tournament in Erdington, Birmingham recently, reports MARK JENSEN.
With low numbers due to injury and availability, Ross started with only two ladies which meant for a long day for them, as a minimum of two are required on the pitch at all times.
Ross started off lively but unfortunately had a tournament ending injury for one of the players early in the match.
The pitch had seen better days for sure!
Ross won their first two games comfortably and went into the third knowing it would be a tougher challenge.
They showed their attacking flare and fast play, mixing it central and wide to manipulate the defense and won 6-3 to everyone’s delight, and left leaving the favoured Moseley Heat slightly bewildered!
The next two games went to plan again as Ross ran in many tries and showed good fitness.
A temporary injury to the captain saw a debut cameo role from a player’s dad which went down well as he scored and assisted a try!
The final game was for the title against Moseley.
At half time Ross trailed 1-0 and had it all to do.
But the team showed brilliant character and team work to fire ahead, with four different players scoring to lift the tournament trophy undefeated.
It was acheived by great team spirit, resolve and attitude.
Meanwhile, Ross RFC 1st XV’s away match at Gordon Leagues last Saturday fell victim to the big freeze, while Newent RFC 1st XV’s trip to Winscombe was also iced off.
