Another defeat for Ross last Saturday at Newent has made their escape from the relegation zone a more difficult proposition. Their nearest rivals, Bream, are now nine points clear, with four games to go.

Saturday's game started well for Ross who were agressive in the tackle and physical at the breakdown. This disrupted the home side's possession and it was Ross who took the lead after ten minutes with a well struck Casey Morgan penalty.

The home side looked to bounce straight back but the ferocity of the Ross pack's tackling and competitiveness at the ruck saw them comfortably hold onto that lead until the last kick of the half when the Newent number 10 struck a penalty to take both sides into half time level at 3-3.

At this stage it was anyone's game however Ross were disrupted at the break as Tara and Adam went off injured. This seemed to knock Ross off their game and it was Newent who dominated the third quarter. They took the game away from Ross with two well taken tries and and two penalties.

In what seemed a blink of an eye Newent had opened up a 19-3 gap on the score board and had effectively shut Ross out of the contest. Ross did stem the tide in the last quarter but could not muster enough ball to build pressure and points. And at the last play of the game Newent added another score to end the game 26-3 winners.

The Ross Hagessud Bosse Man of the match was Gavin Oates, whose tackle count was huge. Next Saturday Ross are at home to Painswick a 2.30pm kick off. The team would really appreciate some local support as they fight to escape from relegation.
