After the last three league games had been affected by the weather, Ross were back in league action last Saturday against Bristol side Cotham Park. They had triumphed at Cotham in October so were looking to do the double and cement their position in the top four of the league.
The game struggled to get going as both teams found the wet conditions difficult to deliver momentum. But the game was punctuated by two great Casey Morgan tries, the first after two minutes and the second with two minutes to go. This was more than enough to secure the league win and set them up for a run of seven league and cup games by the end of March.
Casey's try delivered a perfect start and after converting his own score Ross were 7-0 ahead and in control. They were strong in the scrum with front rowers Soos, Fester and Tony giving the visitors a torrid time up front. This set the platform for the back row of Joe, Gav and Casey to make inroads into the visitors defence, which they ably did. However the slippery conditions saw far too many knock ons and this led to a game punctuated with scrums. Although dominant at scrum time, Ross are a better side with the ball in play where they are able to exploit their fitness and ball skills. The visitors were pugnacious in defence and with the Ross knock ons were able to stay in the game until the last few minutes. A penalty by them mid way through the second half put them within one score 7-3 down. However, Ross dominated the last quarter and Casey's try put paid to any comeback and Ross now look ahead to this weekend's encounter at Glos All Blues with confidence.
The Terry's Digital's Man of the Match was Casey Morgan who delivered all Ross' 12 points.
