After the Christmas break Ross 2nds were back in league action last Saturday taking on the unbeaten league leaders, Pershore. This young Ross side showed a lot of character and effort but Pershore were far too organised and ran out comfortable 30-0 winners.

After the sports centre flooded, the game was switched at the last minute to Greytree and it was the visitors who were the first team out of the blocks. Some great offloads enabled them to get on the front foot and even though there was some great tackling from centres Pete Smith and Russell Walker, they were unable to stop a tide of attacks in the first quarter and Pershore quickly opened up a 20-0 lead after 20 minutes.

But this Ross team would not give in. Hooker Craig Robertshaw began to find his men in the lineout and from this platform Ross came back hard in the second quarter and, with Lee Clements and Ashley Nelms finding gaps in the visitor defence, a Ross score seemed to be coming. First Josh Morgan went close then Ashley Nelms, but the Pershore defence held firm and Ross went into the break 20-0 down.

Ross continued where they left off in the second half with Matt Jones and Ashley Nelms punching some big holes in the Pershore defence, but that try scoring pass proved elusive and as the half progressed Ross tired and this allowed Pershore to add two late scores to run out 30-0 winners.

This was no disgrace for a young and inexperienced Ross outfit as Pershore have been unbeaten all season. The Morris and Aubrey Man of the match was Ashley Nelms

On Saturday January 14th Ross 2nds are away to Old Halesonians a 2.15pm kick off.
