This weekend’s Herefordshire motor clubs Hansford Plant Hire Builth Stages held at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells, will signal the last event of the year for husband and wife duo Nigel andKaren Jenkins, the NJ Autos backed Vauxhall Nova, which will then undergo a full winter rebuild, before the BTRDA series in 2019.
Yet again, the popularity of the event was evident when the entry filled up within hours of the regulations being published. 35 miles are on offer over 12 tests, with the final two stages in darkness.
Karen said: “I didn’t think we’d get an entry, such is the popularity of the event, but we always enjoy these types of events, it’s possibly our last rally this year, before the car gets stripped for a rebuild.
“We are looking to do the BTRDA series next year, because its the most competitive series in the UK, but that depends on us getting some sponsors on board, with the TV and social media coverage of events it’s a good window for sponsors.”
Other local crews out on the event include the former winners and spectator’s favourites, Ian Evans, with Justin Brooks alongside, but he’ll come under pressure from son, Dan, with Jess Hockley in the co driving seat, both crews are in Ian Evans Motorsport built Novas.
Two times winner, Damian Cole, will bring his Get Connected Escort RS looking for that illusive third win, and will have Michelle Shaw alongside.
Veteran co driver, Mike Jode, took overall victory alongside Northern youngster, Riley Banks, in his Peugeot 107 on last weekend’s Fairfield Merlin Pembrey Stages held at the former West Wales airfield.
16 junior 1000 crews joined 55 other crews in the main field, and this was Banks’ best result in a frustrating year but he took a comfortable win by 49 seconds.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
