Whilst Djokovic and Nadal were finishing off their semi-final match, and Williams and Kerber were waiting to commence their ladies finals match at Wimbledon, Goodrich Ladies ’A’ttitudes were taking on the might of Stourbridge ’C’ on Saturday, July 14th, which was another boiling hot day.
Due to Cath Hutchinson picking up a calf strain on the morning of the match, the Goodrich pairings had to be re-jigged, with Jill Brown stepping in at the last minute, having got back from Wimbledon at 4.00 a.m.
Four of the six rubbers went the distance with long energy sapping three sets each, however five of the six rubbers disappointingly went the way of Stourbridge, but it was Kirsten Ainsworth and Steph Howell who once again managed to win one, 1-6/6-4/6-2, and earn the ’A’ttitudes two very valuable points.
Post match refreshments, including beers, strawberries and cream were enjoyed by players and spectators, sat outside on the patio area.
The ’A’ttitudes next match, another tough one, against Bewdley ’A’ who at present sit in second place in Division 3 of the H & W Summer league, will again be at home on Saturday, July 21st, commencing at 2.30 p.m.
