Simon Smith, sponsored by Lucas Motorcycles from Ross-on-Wye, took a great win in the IndiKart series at Hooton Park, Liverpool on Sunday. With changing weather conditions through the day it was difficult deciding what tyres to use.
The first race was dry which Simon won quite easily, the second race took place in torrential rain which he again won after some battles in the awful weather.
Conditions for the final race were damp, but with the track drying Simon decided, with James Lucas, to put the slicks back on. Although as he reached the first bend he thought he might have made a mistake, as karts were slipping and skidding into each other. Simon ended up on the grass and went from fourth on the grid to last place. He had 11 laps to try and make up some ground but the conditions got better and slicks proved to be a good tyre choice as lap after lap he made excellent ground.
With one lap to go he only had one kart to catch and overtake, and two corners from home, with a great move, he dived inside the championship leader Neil Green, from Manchester to sprint to the line for a well deserved win.
Simon is really grateful for all the efforts of James Dean Lucas and Lucas Motorcycles for their involvement and all the hours they have put in to achieve this win.
