The Ross Ladies “A” Tennis team travelled to Malvern on Thursday, May 10th for the second match of the summer season.

Brenda Saunders and Val Davies were the first pair, Sarah Drake and Jane Pepperell the second, and Heather Peachey and Sandy Foulkes made up the team as the third pair, playing together for the first time.

The first matches got underway with the Ross first pair against the Manor Park first pair. Brenda and Val felt wonderful when they won the first set to love, however the opponents came back and took the second set 4-6, with the Ross duo taking the third.

Jane and Sarah cruised through their match against the third pair, only dropping four games.

Meanwhile, Heather and Sandy playing their second pair were up against it, and unfortunately lost in straight sets.

Onto the second match, with the Ross team 2-1 up in the rubber. Brenda and Val were determined to not allow their second pair to get comfortable and took the match only dropping three games. Sarah and Jane took on the first pair and also focused brilliantly.

They broke and took the first set 7-5, and the second set 6-2. It was all about the third couples now, and Heather and Sandy did not disappoint with a very even 6-4, 6-4 win.

The Ross Ladies were delighted with their 5-1 victory against Manor Park, on an unfamiliar surface the ladies notched up an excellent result.
