A Ross driver who wrecked his fiancée's life when he crashed his sports car after crossing double white lines to overtake four vehicles was jailed for 18 months on Monday, August 11th. Both James Moss, 23, and his badly injured former fiancée Emma Waite were in tears throughout the hearing at Gloucester Crown Court.
Miss Waite, from Hereford, who has ended her relationship with Moss since the horrific crash, suffered multiple fractures and was detained in hospital for three months. Moss of Springfield Road, Ross-on-Wye, was driving his fiancée to Gloucester to see a film along the B4221 near the junction with Kilcot Lane in Newent, Gloucester, at around 9pm on November 29th last year when the crash happened. He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to Miss Waite by dangerous driving and was jailed for 18 months and banned from driving for three years. He was not insured at the time.
Prosecutor, Julian Kesner said that after the crash the car's speedometer was found to be stuck at 83mph. Moss had failed to heed a slow sign on the road and had crossed the double white lines to ovetake four cars in damp and dark conditions, said Mr Kesner. He told the court that one driver who witnessed the incident said "I was amazed at the car's speed." Moments before the collision Miss Waite had shouted at Moss to slow down as she did not feel safe, Mr Kesner said.
