There was a double celebration recently at Llangrove’s WI January meeting as the organisation toasted two special milestones.

The January meeting not only marked the 61st anniversary of Llangrove Women’s Institute, but also celebrated Mary Wall’s 70 years of WI membership.

Mary joined Llangarron WI in January 1950, and a few years later became a Llangrove member.

She has held the posts of president, secretary and committee member, and is still an active member of Llangrove WI, whilst also working as a Herefordshire delegate at Annual Meetings in London.

Mary has always had an element of WI in her life – her mother, Mrs Joyner, joined Bridstow WI in 1934 and Mary would go along to the meetings after school just in time for refreshments. When the family moved to Llanwarne Mrs Joyner transferred her membership to Llanwarne WI, where during the war years she was a link member corresponding with a WI member from Canada.

After years of loyal service, Mary feels that the WI has been an important and enjoyable part of her life, and Llangrove WI would like to wish Mary all the best for her continuing membership and thank her for contributions, past present and future.

Llangrove WI meet on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30pm in the village hall, with everyone welcome to come along.
