West Mercia Police are urging residents to be vigilant after a distraction burglary in Ross-on-Wye.
In particular, they would like neighbours to look out for vulnerable and elderly residents.
It follows a man pretending to be a police officer and convincing a 90-year-old woman to let him into her home yesterday (November 4th).
A statement on the West Mercia Police Facebook page said "The investigation is in its early stages and it is not known what has been taken. If in doubt, keep them out.
Bogus "officials" may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, water company or other organisation. Their real purpose is to talk their way into your home to see what they can steal.
Remember: Genuine callers will normally make an appointment first and will carry identification with their photograph on.
- Always put the chain on before you open the door
- If you don’t know the caller, ask to see their identity card. Check it carefully and keep the chain on while you check."
