As part of the police investigation to identify a pensioner who was found in Herefordshire, without any idea who he was, a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.
West Mercia Police have announced that this arrest is a significant development in their investigation to identify the vulnerable man, who was previously reffered to as Roger Curry. Since the man was found on November 7th 2015, he was unable to tell the authorities anything about himself. He gave the name Roger Curry, although no-one could be certain that it was his real name. It is believed he has dementia as he was not able to give any information about himself or his background.
The Ross Gazette was one of many news organisations that covered the story in November last year, when the elderly man was handed over to the Emergency Services. National and International news sources also picked up on the appeal to find out more about what had happened to the mystery man. Following the media and public’s help with this appeal, officers now believe they have identified him.
Formal identification processes are still ongoing at this time, but the man is believed to be 75-years-old and from the United States of America.
As part of the police investigation, a 50-year-old man from Taunton, Somerset, was arrested yesterday (Thursday, April 14th) on suspicion of kidnapping. He has since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries, until June 23rd.
The vulnerable 75-year-old victim remains happy and content and he continues to be cared for by Herefordshire Council.
Speaking today (Friday) Sergeant Sarah Bennett, who has been leading the enquiries, said: “We would like to thank the public and the media for the significant amount of support they have shown by sharing our appeals to identify him far and wide.”
