An open day was held at the Fire Station in Ross-on-Wye on Saturday, July 13th from 10am to 4pm where visitors and local residents had the opportunity to meet their local firefighters, see the crew’s new fire engines and learn about the equipment there.

Organisers arranged lots to do for all the family, and there was child-friendly fire engine rides around the town too.

Many were interested to see a number of demos, from incidens like Road Traffic Collision (RTC) to chip pan fires.

There were members of staff at the station to answer all of the questions visitors had and to show them around. Perhaps the most exciting part of the day were the fire engine rides around the twon.

A HWFRS spokesperson told the Ross Gazette: “Open days at Ross have been hugely successful in the past. They are a great way for us to meet people in the community we serve, and for them to get to know who we are.

“The open day is an event we all look forward to and we hope that people will make a note of the date for next year and bring their families along.

All of the proceeds from the day went to the Firefighters Charity.

A spokesperson for Ross Fire Station said: “Glad you all enjoyed the Open Day and thank you for all your lovely comments throughout the day and beyond.

“We are still looking for new On-Call Firefighters here in Ross. Do you live or work within five minutes of the Fire Station? Next year it could be you showing your town how awesome you are!”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
