A local woman, who is a retired officer from the Metropolitan Police Service, left a floral tribute on a bench outside the Ross-on-Wye Market House today (Thursday, March 23rd) as a mark of respect to PC Keith Palmer, the police officer who was killed in yesterday’s terrorist attack in London.

The woman, who told market traders that she wants to remain anonymous, attached a card to the bouquet. She wrote: “In memory of PC Keith Palmer, who was killed in the line of duty, and remembering injured colleagues.”

Market traders told the Ross Gazette that they thought it was a lovely gesture, and they were very moved.

Yesterday, March 22nd, at approximately 2.40pm, a man, driving a grey Hyundai, ‘mowed down’ pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, before he attempted to enter Parliament, where he was confronted by PC Palmer, who prevented him from progressing any further.

The attacker stabbed PC Palmer, and his injuries were fatal. The alleged assailant was subsequently shot and killed.

Many have left heartfelt tributes to the 48-year-old PC, and commended him for his bravery, including the Prime Minister, Theresa May.

Speaking to the House of Commons today, the PM said: “PC Palmer had devoted his life to the service of his country. He had been a member if the parliamentary and diplomatic protection for 15 years and a solider in the Royal Artillery before that.

“He was a husband and a father, doing a job he loved. He was every inch a hero and his actions will never be forgotten.”

It has been confirmed that two members of the public were also killed in the attack.

One has been named as 43-year-old Aysha Frade. It is understood that she was killed while she was on her way to collect her children from school.

Another has been named as American tourist, Kurt Cochran.

Many more people were injured during the terrorist attack, and seven remain in hospital in a critical condition.
