A woman was seriously injured when the car she was driving was involved in a crash with a barrier on the A40 this afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 12.56pm, to reports of a single car collision between Wilton Roundabout and Ross Labels.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The woman driver who is in her sixties had serious leg injuries and a dislocated shoulder.

“She was treated at the scene for her injuries which included the application of splints to her legs, the giving of pain relief and immobilisation onto a scoop stretcher."

The ambulance, fire service, police and the air ambulance, were all in attendance.

Fire Crews from Ross-on-Wye and Driotwich attended the scene. A spokesperson for the West Midlands Air Ambulance confirmed that one woman was trapped in a vehicle, and the fire crews released her, by removing the door, and the full roof.

The fire crews also used hydraulic equipment during the incident.

The woman was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, via air ambulance.

Highways temporarily closed the road in both directions. The road was reopened at 3.20pm.
