A local man has contacted the Ross Gazette, after receiving a letter from scammers, claiming they are writing from the International Fifa World Cup Online Lottery.

In the letter it states that the man has won £900,000. This is just the latest example of this letter being sent to a local resident that the Ross Gazette has been told about.

In January 2017, November 2016, and May 2016 the Gazette reported that local people had received letters from this fake lottery. None of them were fooled, but they wanted to let other people know that it was a scam, and not to respond to the letter.

Action Fraud, the National Fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, has confirmed that the International Fifa World Cup Online Lottery is a scam.

This is not the only scam operating in this area, the Gazette has also been informed that fake letters and phone calls claiming to be from the Inland Revenue are very convincing. Never give out your personal details to anyone claiming they owe you money, or you owe them money.
