A crew from Whitchurch Fire Station was among 30 firefighters who tackled a blaze at the boys’ boarding school in Monmouth.

Dr Andrew Daniel, Headmaster of Monmouth School said that there was a small fire on Tuesday evening, September 20th, in the first floor of the science block at Monmouth School.

He said that the fire brigade was on site within minutes and was able to put the fire out quickly and without incident. The building was empty and no-one was hurt.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted that ’HWFireWchurch assisted @SWFireandRescue with a room fire in school, Monmouth. The fire was extinguished by crews.’ Gwent Police also assisted.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.

The School has put in place an alternative timetable to ensure any disruptions to science lessons are kept to an absolute minimum. Pupils, parents and staff are being regularly updated.
