Sarah Jones has been part of the ministerial team at St Mary’s Church, Ross-on-Wye since she was ordained and became an assistant curate in 2004. Sarah quickly became an integral part of the church and the local community.

Her most difficult time in Ross was when a national newspaper revealed that she was transgender. Thanks to the support of the congregation at St Mary’s, and many other people in the town, she was able to continue her vocation and has become a very important part of the team at St Mary’s.

Although she has become something of a spokesperson for gender issues for the church, she appeared on BBC radio programmes before Christmas discussing these issues, this is not really her choice. She would rather continue her regular work as the Rector as she now heads the team across the three churches of St Mary The Virgin, Ross, St Michael and All Angels, Walford and St Michael and All Angels, Brampton Abbotts.

However, although Sarah may not be what everyone would expect of an anglican priest, a look at a typical day in the life of a market town vicar may reveal a few more surprises.
