BOB Morgan and Ade Williams in the Winner Garage Subaru Impreza emerged as the top local crew on the Co-Ordsport Emcos Stages at Down Ampney last Saturday, with a fine 6th overall, 2nd in class after 50 miles of stages.

The duo went out on forestry tyres for the opening loop, but lost 20 seconds on stage 3 stuck behind a slower car. As conditions dried out a switch to tarmac tyres paid off immediately with 4th fastest time, and the pair were well pleased with the result. It proved a good day for the Morgan family, with son Jason together with Gareth Pritchard in the Winner Bikes Peugeot 106 stormed to 29th and 1st in Class, after a superb run. Those not fortunate enough to make the finish were Jason Morgan/Mark Wheeler in the Signs by Samurai, who had a superb morning setting top 5 times and just when a podium finish was on the cards an engine failure put an end to a promising drive. Tim Freeman/Mike Mitchell Escort RS crashed out with Nigel Mummery in the ABT Products Escort Cosworth. It went off a couple of times then missed the split on a stage and retired. The event was won by Matt Green/Louise Sworn in a Subaru Impreza his first outright win in 27 years of competing.
