Ross Cricket Club welcomed visitors London Welsh CC for the regular end of season match at The Park on Saturday September 10th . Ross won the toss and asked the visitors to bat.
With the club flag flying at half-mast, a minute's silence was held as a mark of respect for the Hon Sir Ronald Waterhouse, a patron of both clubs, who had arranged the first fixture in 2003, and who died in May on his 85th birthday.
Ross made a quick break-through with Dan Risk (5-2-15-2) bowling Mohammed Nazar for no score. The second wicket stand between Jeremy Randall (25) and top scorer Justin Summers (73) left home skipper Stuart Mair scratching his head for inspiration. This led to the unusual sight of the skipper having to bowl at the Wilton end. The surprised batsmen were unable to get to grips with the variations of pace, line and length, resulting in Stu returning figures of 5 for 44, as the middle order was blown away. A late onslaught by J Woolley (25) took the score to 193, giving Ross the tough task of chasing at almost 5 an over.
The reply struggled against the new ball, as J Woolley (8-1-29-3) sent the top order back leaving Ross on 32 for 4 after 13 overs. A fifth wicket stand between top scorer Jack Evans (48) and impressive new-comer Estian Schoonraad (38), put the innings back on track. Both batsmen were removed by Mohammed Nazar (8-0-41-3) who re-established the control for London Welsh. Dan Risk (20) played some robust shots at the end of the innings, but he was one of Ali Mosoor's (7-0-24-2) victims. A second run out chasing the challenging total saw Ross all out for 160.
Stalwart, Bill Jenkins was left with the task of presenting the cup to the visitors and reminding everybody that the score in the series of matches is now London Welsh CC 5 – Ross CC 3.
