Eight-year-old Ella Brooke had her locks of long blonde hair chopped off on Friday, August 12th, so that she could give it to the Little Princess Trust.

Ella had her hair cut by Luciano Cingari at Luch Hair on Broad Street. After putting her hair into several plaits, and chopping it off, he styled her hair into a neat bob.

So far, Ella has raised approximately £250 in sponsorship for the Little Princess Trust, through donations from friends, family and neighbours.

Her new style was quite a drastic change for Ella, who had always had her hair very long. When asked why she had decided to give her hair to the Little Princess Trust, Ella told the Gazette: “Because I don’t like cancer.” Her mum, Gemma added, that their family have organised coffee mornings for Macmillan Cancer Support in the past.

The charity, which is based in Hereford, provides wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illnesses, such as cancer.

The charity was set up by a Herefordshire couple in 2006 after their daughter, Hannah Tarplee, died of cancer the previous year.

She had loved wearing her wig, especially on special occasions, and her mum and dad had wanted to do something to help other families with children who had lost their hair, due to the effects of cancer treatment or other illness.

The Little Princess Trust, in addition to producing wigs made from donated hair, also purchases extra wigs, made from real human hair, in order to keep up with demand.

Ella plans to donate her sponsorship money to the charity, in addition to her hair.
