There was a Harvest celebration with a difference at Christ Church over the weekend of September 25 and 26th. The Sunday morning service took the form of a dramatic presentation of the story of Ruth from the Old Testament.
The service was devised and presented by the Revd Glyn Jenkins, the drama was produced by Jean Pickering and 20 people took part in it. The front of the church was transformed into a harvest field giving an ideal setting for the love-story.
The story tells of three migrant women - all widows and destitute - making their way from Moab to Bethlehem at the time of the barley harvest. The story raises issues of caring for the migrant foreigner, taking responsibility for the victims of famine and the sharing of food. Gifts at the service were received for the Ross Community Food Larder.
More than 40 people sat down to an enjoyable Harvest Supper on Monday, September 26th at which a film ‘When Truth is blind’ was shown.
The film, made by the United Reformed Church, is part if its programme ‘@ home in a strange place’. It was introduced by its director Kevin Snyman.
This theme is being followed at Christ Church over the next four Sundays, October 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd.
