The August Bank Holiday weekend saw a huge success for this year’s Ollie Fest, which crowds of visitors and locals enjoyed.
Beginning on Friday 24th, the Festival had plenty on offer with food, drink, fun fair rides, and live music. Teams of players from Ross-on-Wye and Drybrook Rugby Clubs also took part in a spirited match in honour of Ollie Floyd’s dedication to Ross Rugby Club.
However, this year, the Ollie Fest organisers decided to lessen their impact on the environment too. Working with the refreshment teams, the Festival switched to reusable cups to limit the amount of single-use plastic thrown away at the end of the weekend.
Each cup cost a token worth £1.00, and once finished with, the cups could be returned in exchange for the £1.00.
The organisers said that the outcome was incredible, not only did it result in less wastage, but it also reduced the amount of litter.
Many people who support cutting down on single use plastics congratulated the Ollie Fest organisers for another spectacular year, and for setting such a good example.
