Paramedics on standby at the Lea Show sprang into action on Bank Holiday Monday when young rider Becky Byard took a tumble off her horse.
Becky complained of chest and back pains and the showjumping competition was halted as her condition was assessed and a land ambulance called. As there were concerns that Becky might have suffered a neck or back injury the Air Ambulance was called to take Becky to hospital.
The helicopter had to land in a nearby field as the pilot was worried about overhead wires and the number of horses in the showground.
Secretary of the Show Rose Savidge explained that the paramedics are from a specialist company which provides cover for the horse events as well as the crowds which flock to this traditional show.
As we went to press on Tuesday Mrs Savidge told the Gazette that Becky was bruised and shaken but was now at home resting
