Dear Editor,
Regarding “unwarranted destruction” in the Ross Gazette, July 25th 2018, yes indeed every picture tells a story, and every story paints a picture. Sadly, this story painted a poor picture.
I fully agree with the letter however, find it difficult to agree with the Herefordshire Council who seem to agree with those who complained by saying “there are no further plans for work at this location”. This must mean that the Council are happy to replace a colourful well kept flowerbed with an eyesore in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Over the 20 plus years that I have lived here, the flowerbed was supplied and maintained by neighbours. I was happy to donate some plants, now I am unhappy to look at an eyesore in this AONB.
As the reason given for grounds of complaint, I find that rather strange that as I am and have been over those 20 plus years, a driver / passenger in a very low slung car ie a Jaguar, I have never found visibility restricted, or in any way a danger.
What I do consider to be a danger, with reference to this site, is the absence of a road sign on the EASTERN approach to this blind junction.
On numerous occasions I have asked the said Council/ Herefordshire Highways for a road junction sign be positioned on the EASTERN approach road, something that I consider more important than the destruction of a small flower patch.
The only response was to position a similar sign on the WESTERN approach road where speed and visibility was/is not an issue.
Responses to my requests have not been actioned as speedily or perhaps not considered to be as necessary as the flower garden complaint and the destruction of it and the resulting eyesore in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
