Last year, Annabelle Mutlow organised her first coffee morning in aid of Epilepsy Action, and she raised an impressive £390.40, but she has done even better this year, and has raised almost £500.

Annabelle, who is ten years old, held the coffee morning at her home in Pencraig, and she spent two days baking cakes with her mum, Debbie, to make sure the guests had plenty of goodies to choose from.

Debbie told the Gazette that approximately 40 guests attended the coffee morning, held on Saturday, March 25th, and they also held a raffle and a quiz during the event.

Annabelle’s grandmothers also contributed cakes to sell, along with prizes, including an array of chocolate bunnies and a special cake for Mother’s Day, for the raffle and the quiz.

After the event, when they counted the money, Annabelle and Debbie thought they had raised £470.05 for Epilepsy Society, but they were later given an additional donation of £15 by a family friend, taking the final total up to £485.05.

Annabelle decided that she wanted to raise funds for charities benefiting people with Epilepsy, as she diagnosed with epilepsy just over two years ago; she has Complex Partial Seizures, which can last for a minute or two.

These seizures differ from what many people would picture when thinking of an epileptic fit; Annabelle will zone out, or become unaware of her surroundings for a few minutes, or she may experience a short set of brief unconscious behaviours.

However, Debbie said that Annabelle is doing well, and while they keep an eye on her, it does not limit her day to day life, and she has two residential trips, and a forthcoming school visit to Cadbury World to look forward to.
