Madam, Paul Keetch in my view was a good constituency
MP and helped people when they had problems. Would
our present contenders do the same? What do they think
about local issues?
We hear the national views all the time and realise
that they must follow the national party line but what
about local issues or issues of conscience. All candidates
have said they support tourism with enthusiasm, because
it is so important. Does this mean they oppose
polytunnels because reading in your newspaper it would
appear 'they have a detrimental effect on tourism' or do
they support polytunnels as a vital part of modern
agriculture?
I would like to know their views. Equally David
Cameron has said if he wins the election he will allow a
'free vote' on foxhunting. How will our candidates
vote on this issue? If they cop out with 'I will listen to the
arguments and then decide' that will tell us a lot about
the candidate.
Major parties have said they will cut out waste and
inefficiency. Local village Post Offices and schools are
under threat because they are seen as inefficient and
therefore wasteful, are these the savings they mean? They
may be inefficent financially but they are much loved and
needed by many.
What do they feel about local 'green issues' - wind
farms in South Herefordshire? I would like to know our
local candidates' views on things like this.
Difficult questions I know but I would like to know
whether the person I am voting for represents my view on
some of these key issues, especially as at a national level.
I am not over convinced by any one party - yet.
I am sure there are a lot of other issues that Ross
Gazette readers would like to raise as well - so how about
The Ross Gazette starting a forum over the next few
weeks to let the candidates have the opportunity to let the
readers know their views.
Bill Webb, Llangarron
Editor's note - If any of the candidates would like to
answer any or all of these questions as well as those
posed by young voter Charlotte Reynolds please send
them to the Editor and we will consider them for
publication.
