The search for a new Town Crier for Ross-on-Wye to make announcements on special occasions, such as the 75th anniversary of VE Day, stepped up a notch when Bromyard Town Crier visited to show how it is done.
Peder Nielsen, the champion member of the Guild of Town Criers stood on the Market House steps to make a cry appealing for a new recruit.
He said that they would need a good voice and plenty of stamina and they would be suplied with a shiny bell, a tricorn hat and a gown to wear while taking part in special events in Ross.
Councillors say that having a Town Crier could be a great boost for tourism, and would benefit local events both small and large.
The Town Council agreed on Monday, September 9 to spend up to £300 on a costume for the crier.
The council is looking for volunteers who would like to take up the role and are hoping to host auditions soon.
They invited Peder to ring out a special cry in Ross to show people exactly what is needed to take on this voluntary role.
The video of his call which was shared on the Ross Gazette Facebook page was viewed thousands of times and many names have been suggested for this presitious post.
