Plans are well underway for this year’s Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre and applications are now open for local businesses to book stalls there.
Councillor Hannah Lerego, who is Chair of the Town Council’s Events Committee, told the Ross Gazette that this year, the Beefy Boys will return, but will not have exclusivity for food; she said that she hopes there will be stalls selling hot chestnuts, warming bowls of soup, as well as mulled wine and cider, and other Christmasey treats.
Any proceeds raised during this year’s Fayre will be re-invested in the event the following year, but Cllr Lerego said that a Ross group will still benefit from funds raised during the afternoon; X-entricity, the young theatre group will run Santa’s grotto, and all the money spent there will be re-invested into the actors’ future productions.
Cllr Lerego commented that she has every faith the actors will do a brilliant job, and she added it’s a good way for the group to get involved in the Fayre, to play a part in the community and to make some money for themselves.
This year, the Events Committee anticipate that the Fayre will be even bigger and better than ever. The stalls will be in the same location they have been for the past two years, but Cllr Lerego said there are plans to expand into St Mary’s Church, Hall and Churchyard.
There will also be several other charity stalls, and the Ross Gazette team will also be raising money for the Ross Action Bus, our charity of 2017.
Traders selling good quality items that are in-keeping with a traditional Christmas Fayre are invited to apply for stalls. Categories include Christmas produce and products, such as toys, gifts, artwork, jewellery and craft. Preference will be given to stall holders whose products will augment the variety on offer, for example, items that are different or unique and will enhance the event for visitors.
The Fayre will take place on November 19th between 11am and 5pm. Stalls cost £40 and are equipped with a table and canopy. Pitches will be allocated on the day, and chairs will not be provided. Stall holders are asked to light their own stalls after dusk, but if the Events Committee can secure sponsorship, it will be a bonus, but it is in no way guaranteed.
Applications for stalls opened on May 1st, and forms can be collected from the Corn Exchange, Ross Town Council’s office, which is open Monday to Friday, between 9.30am and 1pm. Alternatively, email [email protected] or visit www.facebook.com/RossChristmasFayre
