IT’S TIME to apply for your child’s secondary school place as the school admissions process opened for applications this week.

Admissions for secondary school places for the academic year starting in September 2027 opened on Monday, September 7, for children who were born between September 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016.

Parents and carers of Year six pupils living in Herefordshire will receive a letter from the pupil admissions officer through their child’s current primary school or via their home address if attending a school in another local authority.

The letter will detail how and where to apply for a secondary school place.

All applications can be made online at Herefordshire Council’s website.

The admissions team are reminding parents and guardians that late applications could result in a child not being offered a place in a preferred school.

The closing date for all secondary school applications is midnight on October 31, 2026

Information on open days and evenings for 2026/2027 transfer to secondary school, that are taking place in September and October 2026, are also available on the council’s website.

Most children in the Ross-on-Wye catchment area will attend John Kyrle High School where the school governors believe every young person deserves an excellent education; one that opens doors, develops character and prepares them for a happy and successful future.

Applications for a primary school place for the same academic year will open from 14 September 14 for children born between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023.

The closing date for primary school applications will be January 15, 2027. Herefordshire Council will notify parents / guardians of the outcome of their child’s application in April 2027.
