LOCAL conservation education charity Wild Rivers is launching its River Wye Expedition later this month

The education Community Interest Company Wild Rivers will be launching their canoes at Glasbury on September 14 to begin a two-week paddling expedition to connect primary school children with natural heritage and conservation.

Wild Rivers was founded in 2024 in response to a disconnect between human communities and the natural world.

Their aim is to inspire stewardship of our ecosystems through combining outdoor exploration with environmental education.

Wild Rivers combines outdoor exploration with ecology and conservation education, igniting a passion in young people for wild spaces.

The group’s mission is to excite young people for ecology, rewilding and restoring the country’s natural heritage.

And through exploring a diversity of outdoor environments, the group creates opportunities for discussion and experiential learning to better engage individuals with the natural world.

Wild Rivers is expanding its network of ecologists to lead multiple educational river expeditions each year, reaching over 1,000 young people annually.

They are striving to make their projects more inclusive and work with children from underprivileged or disadvantaged backgrounds, who may not have had equal access to nature and the outdoors.

A spokesperson for Wild Rivers said: “We are now working on broadening our expeditions and field trips for 2026 and beyond.

“This is a story of inspiring children to observe and connect with the natural world, recognise what it provides for them, and in turn take care of it - for now and generations to come.

“The team will be paddling from Glasbury to Tintern in hand made skin-on-frame canoes, stopping at local primary schools en-route to deliver interactive sessions on river ecology, land use and conservation practices.”
