BARE BONES Youth Theatre wowed audiences with their performances
at Goodrich last week. It was something of a disappointment
to learn that the dates for Herefordshire County
Drama Festival this year coincided with those for the John Kyrle
production of Macbeth. With several Bare Bones members cast in the school production
it would not be possible to compete at the Courtyard Theatre
in a Festival which they won last year.
However, that disappointment was not evident
last week, when, for three evenings,
they presented two one-act plays at
Goodrich Village Hall at the culmination of
a five day theatre workshop.
Each of the plays, "2B or not 2B" and "Castle Royal", both by Bill Tordoff, had a
cast of twenty nine players and demanded
concentrated teamwork from the young
actors. They showed remarkable discipline
and their obvious enjoyment was matched
by sizeable and appreciative audiences.
Director Dave Baldwin said, "I am sure that not even the
author would claim that these were great works of literature but
they do provide a platform for a large number of young people
to learn those stage disciplines that are at the very heart of theatrical
performance".
The group's next production is the annual open air Shakespeare performance at Bishopswood House in August.
