The Horse and Jockey may be set to close after being bought by a large company, despite support from within the community.

The Ross-on-Wye pub had previously been owned by Punch Taverns but has been taken over, along with 157 other pubs, by New River Retail, for the sum of £53.5 million for the whole package.

Current landlord and landlady, Martyn and Jenny Clemson were given just a week’s notice of the purchase, and no further information at that time.

Pub locals and members of the community do not want to see the pub close permanently, and more than 60 residents have signed a petition to see it made an ‘Asset of the Community.’ A Facebook page has also been set up to demonstrate additional local support for the pub.
