The Great Aunt of five-year-old, Oscar Saxelby Lee, who is suffering with a rare form of leukaemia, was thrilled that a fund-raising event she organised at a Ross-on-Wye pub raised £2,000 to help his family, but was even more delighted to learn that Oscar is now responding to treatment.
Oscar had not initially reposed to the chemotherapy but he was put on a higher intensity dose and is now responding, which Mandy said means that if a match is found the transplant can go ahead. She said that this is the best news possible at the moment, “we are all so thrilled for Oscar and his Mum and Dad, Jamie and Olivia.”
Mandy told the Ross Gazette: “I could not believe that we raised £2,000 at the Prince of Wales, I was really hoping we might make £1,000 so this was amazing. The money is important because it means Oscar’s Mum and Dad can concentrate on being with him without worrying about bills. Even if he has a transplant he will still be in hospital for months.
