It’s understood some 60 people are planning to attend the protest, which is due to start at the Market Place on Saturday (June 6) from 12pm until 2pm.

Organisers have stressed that protestors will stay two metres apart from each other and are being urged to turn up wearing a face mask.

A spokesperson for the event said: “This is a peaceful protest conducted by young people to educate and inform on the racial injustices that are occurring on a daily basis.”

The event in Ross will open with a short talk from one of the organisers before a short moment of silence to remember those who have lost their lives due to racial discrimination in the United States and all around the world.

Scarlett Robbins, who will be attending this weekend’s protest, explained: “This event will also be completely peaceful, there is no malicious intent behind it, we just want to inform people and give a platform to those people of colour who do not have one.”

Thousands of people in towns and cities across the world started protesting recently over the death of George Floyd in the United States.

Mr Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after a white policeman knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minnesota on May 25 - regimenting the issue of police brutality against black people.

And three colleagues, who were present at the the incident, will stand accused of aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
