Several local residents have complained recently about the condition of the gratings which cover the drains in the pavements around the town centre.

Some of the grilles are broken, which means they move out of place when they are walked on. In other places the cement holding them in place has worn away also meaning they can move out of place.

Several people have also remarked on how difficult they are for anyone wearing heels to walk on as their shoes can get caught in the pattern of the grille.

A spokesman for Herefordshire Council told the Ross Gazette: “Herefordshire Council, in partnership with Balfour Beatty, have a responsibility to keep the public realm safe for everybody. Where gratings in the footway are found to be a safety risk, we work hard to ensure they are made safe, or replaced, in accordance to our highway maintenance plan. We have not received any recent complaints of damaged gratings in Ross.”
