Ross-on-Wye based Muddy Boots Software experienced significant growth in 2017. Established more than 20 years ago, and with a growing headcount of 120 members of staff across six global offices, Muddy Boots has become one of Herefordshire’s leading technology businesses and one of the world’s leading developers of food supply chain software.
The Company still primarily operates from its headquarters in Phocle Green, Ross-on-Wye, in an environmentally friendly, purpose-built office, right in the heart of Herefordshire’s countryside.
Muddy Boots is a real local success story. Chances are, when you walk into your local supermarket and select your fruit and vegetables, you’re choosing a product that has been rigorously quality checked by the Company’s software. In fact, over 4.1 million items of fresh produce were quality checked by Muddy Boots’ Greenlight Quality Control in 2017 – that’s enough to feed 2,246 people their 5 fruit and vegetable portions every day!
“We put this down to the growing demand from food businesses for quick and easy access to the data that tells them how their products are performing,” states Mark Powell, Product Owner at Muddy Boots. “This data is then being used to make informed business decisions that help food businesses reduce waste and cost whilst maintaining the right quality standards for their customers, and ultimately the end consumer.”
The satisfaction of the end consumer is paramount to Muddy Boots’ customers: “As public awareness around issues such as food safety, waste, sustainability and compliance continues to grow, so too does the need for innovative technology solutions that are capable of gathering, analysing and managing large volumes of data,” comments Jack Evans, Head of Commercial at Muddy Boots. “We have expertise in this area, and take pride in delivering the visibility and knowledge our users require in order to meet the growing needs of their customers.”
The Company is quickly becoming the industry’s ‘one-stop-shop’ for managing, monitoring and maintaining the quality of fresh produce from grower to retailer. 2017 was a year of more significant developments for Muddy Boots:
• The business moved into the Americas
• Greenlight Grower Management saw a wealth of new features, including fertiliser plans, farm financials, weather forecasting and much more
• Greenlight Quality Control experienced an increase of 40% in its user base, as more businesses invest in technology to manage and maintain quality standards
• New tools, such as Insights, a powerful data discovery and analytics tool, and Pesticide Manager, a rigorous online PPU (proposed pesticide usage) management system, were launched to further increase the offer of Muddy Boots’ solutions.
Customers include global brands, leading retailers and thousands of suppliers, growers and agronomists – enabling visibility of data and real-time communication for supply chain members all over the world.
